Chapter 2

A rich man called Vimalakirti was in the Vaisali city at the time.

He was a person with many mysteries.

He came to the Vaisali city 20 years ago.

But, there was no person who knows his footprint before it.

The beginning when he came to the city, and he were only spices sale of an itinerant trade.

His appearance was shabby.

His life was also likely to be painful.

But, the spices which he sells are quality and the price was also aptitude.

His sociability to a visitor was good , and the correspondence was also frank.

Therefore, the visitors centering on domestics of a rich man increased in number him to favor.

His face came to be known also in a Vaisali city.

He opened the independent store in the excellent location of shopping quarter at the time.

To be sure, they knew that his itinerant trade was well received.

But, there was no person who knows having profited so that he opened the store.

People were surprised.

It was a small-scale store at first.

But, the extension was repeated every year and it became the leading great store in  Vaisali city in during several years.

In the near residential street a degree to the store,

he built the great residence which is equal to the royal palace of a raja (feudal lord).

People were surprised again.

After that, he invested property and made the hospital.

Furthermore, he performs various charitable activities and was respected from people.

But, he interfered in many matters again.

When he contributed, he was not silent.

Surely preaching a sermon was his usual state.

Therefore, there were many persons who dislike his matter in intelligent layers.

Among those, there were some persons who challenge him to an argument game.

But Vimalakirti was erudition very much about where he bought in those knowledge.

His speech was also all over clear.

There was no person who can compete with him in theory directly.

There was no person who knows with what means he built hundreds of wealth.

The moneylender was also acting as him after becoming a millionaire.

But, it was low interest from the general market price.

Moreover, he was not particular about a partner.

The raja was continuing a prolonged dispute with the neighboring country.

He was racking his brains for aggravation of the finances of the cost of war depended for increasing.

At last, he reaches the end of his rope, and came to apply for a debt to Vimalakirti.

Men of the same trade feared and were reluctant to lend trampling down of a raja.

But, he accepted the demand of a raja nicely.

As a result, the raja was able to knock down the old enemy.

He greatly appreciated.

He tried to recommend  Vimalakirti for the honorary citizen and tried to send the title of a ksatriya (aristocrat class).

But, the Vimalakirti declined firmly.

He said that he was splendid with a visya (bourgeoisie).

In this way, he got reliance of the raja and made a famous man's status decide.

However, the he joined the Gautama religious group and did great contribution.

It was considered that it was a poor new religious group suspicious those days.

It became reputation again.

A certain party regarded Vimalakirti of a parvenu as unpleasant.

They blamed him all at once.

Gautama of a founder of a religion was emphasizing the ksatriya graduate.

But, it was lacking in the authenticity.

Many of his believers were sudra class.

They were considered to be outside the limit of Samsara.

It gossiped whether in it, even untouchables (lower class when excepted from caste) would be contained.

Action of the Gautama religious group was the outlaw group who is not permitted by the ethics view of northern part India of those days.

Vimalakirti appeared well also in the gambling house.

His method of gambling was steady.

Although he did not do a great victory, he did not do a complete defeat, either.

Moreover, he went also to the prostitution town well and did friendship to prostitutes deeply.

He took care of prostitutes eagerly.

He responded to their money consultation.

However, he had the peculiarity preached each time.

Therefore, prostitutes were keeping away from him for a while.

He often also attended the bar.

He drank alcohol and became still more talkative.

He often did the argument game to an acquaintance's brahmanas.

There was no confidence to which who wins the argument game with him.

Then, they adopted the following means, when challenged to an argument game by him.

They endure and wait for the good time which he is tired of talking and is resting.

And they pull up the spot for the reason of minor business etc.

He always claimed the improvement in a spiritual ranking.

He criticized various human beings' fault.

He was encouraging them strongly.

When rumor that the he became sick flowed, people thought that they were unexpected.

He told like this many people usually.

"All illnesses happen owing to egoism.

Sick people reflect on oneself and must strive for much more devotion."

He was explaining and spreading so.

"What kind of illness is it that such a great person is worried?"

There was also a person with such a simple question.

"Did a fellow's true character make it exposed at last?

He always told us the magnificent matter.

Serves him right!.

How does he have the idea which covers up his illness?"

It came out to the opinion filled in such malice, and various guesses flew in public.

The raja was most surprised at his illness.

Now, the raja did not have the reliance which pays the debt borrowed from him.

But, his lax financial situation is not improved but needed the further debt.

He was looked out for and forsaken from many moneylenders.

The person for whom he depends at the end required only Vimalakirti.

As the raja, when dying in him now, it was troubled.

Then, he made the minister go to an inquiry.

And he ordered the minister to explore the situation of Vimalakirti.

The minister visited in the residence of the Vimalakirti with several brahmanas in response to the intention of the raja.

Vimalakirti invited ministers to the bedroom and received them.

By the impression which they looked at, Vimalakirti was clearly haggard.

However, he was doing not a pajamas but the usual dress, sat on the chair and had acted stoutheartedly.

When he sat visitors on the sofa, he began a speech by the example.

"Gentlemen,

The flesh with which we are dwelling is very uncertain.

Pain and difficulty follow also on maintaining this flesh.

Moreover, it tends to start also sick.

Therefore, the person who searches for space knowledge has not made such flesh etc. reliance at all.

First of all, flesh is what our attachment generated owing to.

Since attachment is produced by delusion, this flesh is only a phenomenon after all.

Since it is only a phenomenon, by deed of oneself, it will be influenced and will change.

Since delusion continues changing continuously, flesh cannot stop change, either.

Moreover, this flesh is made from the substance.

So, it has the character of a solid, a liquid, gas, and a plasma object.

But, a spirit body cannot be made from the state where such densities are low.

This flesh is only a thing showing not substance (eternal universal structure inside the vacuum) but four kinds of form of a substance.

Moreover, since this flesh does not contain the spiritual object, it is governed by the physical law.

Moreover, even if it interprets flesh as a wave motion, an energy state is low and cannot exist phenomenon-like.

Since entropy only increases after bearing, flesh wears out certainly.

And finally a function will be suspended.

Gentlemen.

Since this flesh is uncertain, first of all, we must be aware of our spiritual object.

A spiritual object is because it is close to the figure of eternal universal substance.

It constructs huge years and is made by space knowledge.

A spiritual object protects the law of the universe.

It calms agitation of the heart.

It studies space knowledge.

It is released from egoism.

It evolves by the act which turns the ecstasy of the release to the others, and results in the body of a buddha.

Gentlemen

If you want to acquire the body of a buddha and to release all persons from illness, you have to start the heart which asks for the union with space knowledge.

Thus, Vimalakirti lectured for the people visited to the visit.

A visitor's brahmanas are cultured and were well versed also in philosophy.

Therefore, they were able to understand his doctrine to some extent.

We could ask the spirit for a person's true character.

Moreover, it is the purpose of self existing in this world to ask for the union with self and the space great spirit.

This was also reason obvious.

But, it was suspicious whether it was necessary to make an effort which releases all men from illness.

All the persons to where is "all persons"?

Has he said about the brahmana?

Does even the Vaisya to whom the Vimalakirti belongs include?

Or is it contained to a sudra?

Aim did not take the post of them.

Why can the person be united with Brahman if the illness of sudra in whom the soul does not exist is cured?

Are a Buddha and Brahman another existence?

First of all, what relation has this talk and the illness of the Vimalakirti?

Furthermore,

"Doesn't this guy mystify us by the example again?

I can think that he has perverted the fact which became his own illness."

There were even persons who suspect so.
